TourPulse / Methodology
Behind the numbers
TourPulse brings historical results and current tournament coverage into one tennis analytics experience. Every number is limited by the records available for its tour and season.
Tour Rating
A season-scoped score from 0 to 10, based on win percentage, match volume, and title quality. Players need 10 eligible matches to appear on the leaderboard. Title weights depend on tournament level. The current model is tour-rating-v2.
Tour Rating is independent of official ATP and WTA rankings. It is not a probability of winning a match. The homepage, profiles, and leaderboard use the same model and match population.
Match Rating
Match Rating evaluates an individual performance using the existing TourPulse model, including opponent context and available statistics. It is distinct from season Tour Rating. A missing rating means the model’s required inputs are unavailable or the outcome is ineligible; it does not mean zero.
Sources and unified history
Jeff Sackmann’s datasets are the historical source of truth. Matchstat supplies current fixtures, results, and supplementary advanced statistics. Verified player, tournament, edition, and match mappings connect these sources. When both cover the same encounter, the historical result takes precedence; compatible missing statistics can be supplemented.
Names alone never establish identity. Unresolved Matchstat results in seasons with historical coverage are withheld from combined aggregates until reviewed. Records with incomplete mappings may have incomplete career coverage. Original imports are retained for reconciliation.
Records and preview cutoffs
Win/loss records and Tour Rating count completed matches and retirements with a known winner. Walkovers and cancellations do not count as played matches. Match histories can still show these outcomes. H2H surface records use the same counting rules.
Previews use results dated before the scheduled match day, excluding undated and same-day results to avoid incorporating later outcomes. If the date is unconfirmed, the pre-match comparison is unavailable. Published historical rating trends can use edition dates for ordering where exact match dates are absent; these are not confirmed match-day timestamps.
Schedules and availability
The calendar shows imported editions, not a complete future-season schedule. Unconfirmed dates and unavailable statistics are labeled accordingly. Historical coverage varies by season and tour. Scheduled source syncs run every two hours; page visits read stored data. TourPulse does not provide live scores.
